Abstract In order to determination of volatilizable element Hg in plant samples, the method that plant samples were digested with the simple setting-furnace digestion and big cuvettes and determined by ICP-MS was brought forward in this paper. The instrument conditions were optimized.L-cysteine was preferred as the most suitable washing reagent and was added into the inner standard solution.A better linear calibration curve was obtained with the correlation coefficient of 0.9993,and which the detection limit for Hg was 0.012 μg/g(10σ,DF=100)by ICP-MS.while the detection limit for Hg was 0.0013μg/g (10σ,DF=100)by AFS.The standard substances GSV-3,GSV-4,GSB-1,GSB-6,GSB-10,and GSB-4 was digested with this method and determined by ICP-MS,which certified volatilizable element Hg wasn't of loss with the digestion method. As the same as determination of Li,B,Cr,Mn,Co,Ni,Cu,Zn,As,Sr,Mo,Cd,Ba and Pb could also get good results. The results were in good agreement with the certified values.
