Abstract In last decades,a series of important progresses have been achieved in geochemical studies on mire marshes, especially on the aspects of lipids and their stable isotopes.Peat marshes are good geological records because the makeup and ratio of peat celluclose carbon hydrogen and oxygen isotopes are composite parameters of environment change.Sedimentary lipids contain basic structures that reflect organic sources. These biomarks have well recorded evolutionary information of paleo-climate,paleo-vegetation and paleo-environment since Holocene and, thus, play an important role in the research of current global change. In this paper, recent progresses in study on geochemistry of peat marshes are summarized, with focuses on several important problems including the development of research technology, the transition from qualitative explanation to quantitative analysis, the improvement of research precision, and the existing problems.
